Reformed Reply to Synergist Proof-Texts

Let’s look at a proof-text that Synergists will appeal to such as 2 Peter 2:1.

But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves.
(2 Peter 2:1)

What is 2 Peter 2:1 actually stating? The free-will theist (Synergist) assumes that the portion of the sentence which states “even denying the Master who bought them” asserts that the false teachers deny the Master who bought them, and this is the reason why the false teachers bring swift destruction upon themselves, hence denying a definite atonement or particular redemption.

But that’s not what the verse is stating. Instead, it’s saying that the false teachers will introduce destructive heresies among the flock, and one of these heresies is denying the Master who bought them, and this is the reason why the false teachers bring upon themselves a swift destruction. This is exactly what we see reemphasized in 2 Peter 2:2, “Many will follow their sensuality, and because of them (false teachers) the way of the truth will be maligned."

Jude 1:4 talks about the same thing; those who were marked out for this condemnation before creation: “For certain people have crept in unnoticed who long ago were designated for this condemnation, ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into sensuality and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.” So if they were marked out for this condemnation long ago this would defeat the Arminian claim that this verse denies a definite atonement.
